Mustaviklo

Euroopan mustaviklopopulaation arvioidaan olevan 20 000–45 000 paria, ja linnut talvehtivat pääasiassa Välimeren rannikolla ja Sahelissa (Delany et al. 2009). Pohjoisemmilla leveysasteilla laji pesii tundralla tai boreaalisen taigan soilla. Vaikka lajin pesimämäärät ovat pieniä kolmessa Fennoskandian maassa, on näyttöä lajin negatiivisesta kannankehityksestä lyhyellä ja pitkällä aikavälillä (Lindström et al. 2015). Liiallinen soiden kuivaaminen Suomessa voi olla yksi lajin vähenemisen syistä (Fraixedas et al. 2017). Tietojemme mukaan laji on yksi vähiten tutkituista Euroopan kahlaajista, eikä sille ole tehty telemetriaseurantaa.
