Garganey
Garganey is a trans-Saharan migratory dabbling duck that winters in the Sahel and breeds across Europe, with strongholds in Russia. Breeding numbers are declining because of climate severity and hunting, according to Pöysä & Väänänen (2014). The species is also threatened by habitat loss due to drainage and transformation of wetlands into arable land in breeding areas and large-scale irrigation schemes in wintering areas in West Africa. However, to our knowledge, no research has been dedicated to the habitat needs and potential links to demography on the breeding grounds.
