Turtle Dove
The Turtle Dove is the only landbird with a high priority index in the NADEG assessment. As a long-distance migrant, European populations winter in West Africa and have dramatically declined for decades. It breeds in farmlands with grasslands and wooded features. There is an EU International Single Species Action Plan for the Conservation of the Turtle Dove (2018 to 2028) and recent tracking initiatives to identify the wintering grounds of the European populations and obtain high-frequency data on breeding grounds in France, Germany, Spain, Greece.
