This snipe breeds from France to Siberia, mainly in wet grasslands and bogs. Large numbers of Eastern birds migrate to Western Europe in winter, so estimating the impact of hunting on the declining breeding European populations is not achievable without unravelling migratory connectivity and the winter destination of European breeding birds. While there are already important tracking efforts on birds captured in winter, our tagging efforts on breeding populations from France to Finland will provide high-frequency data to get knowledge on the habitat needs of birds breeding in Europe.
