Tracking birds

Home / Tracking birds

The HABITRACK project studies 14 bird species:

  • Migratory species under agricultural threats

While the habitat needs of sedentary farmland birds have been largely studied and many solutions identified, though not necessarily largely implemented in the field, the case of migratory species is more complex. They visit multiple regions during their annual cycle and face various anthropogenic pressures, including agricultural threats not only on the breeding grounds but also on wintering grounds and stopover refuelling sites.

  • Huntable bird species with a non-secure conservation status

Among these migratory species, HABITRACK focuses on species identified as high priority by the sub-expert group on EU nature directives (NADEG) according to the NADEG index of priority and for which agriculture is reported as one of the three most frequent pressures on bird species.

The 14 selected species cover different taxonomic groups and life history traits (foraging strategy, mating system, territoriality…).
